Writing tips for the web…

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Whilst doing some research into best practice writing techniques for the interweb I came across several variations of this list.

Some good advice here for all writers.

1. Avoid alliteration. Always.
2. Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do.
3. If you start a thought be sure to . . .
4. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
5. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
6. Remember to never split an infinitive.
7. Contractions aren’t necessary.
8. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
9. One should never generalize.
10. Don’t be redundant; don’t use more words than necessary; it’s highly superfluous.
11. Be more or less specific.
12. One-word sentences? Eliminate.
13. The passive voice is to be avoided.
14. Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
15. Who needs rhetorical questions?
16. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
17. Proofread carefully to see if you words out.
18. A writer must not shift your point of view.
19. And don’t start a sentence with a conjunction. (Remember, too, a preposition is a terrible word to end a sentence with.)
20. Don’t overuse exclamation marks!!
21. Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.
22. Last but not least, avoid clichés like the plague; They’re old hat; seek viable alternatives.

Freedom4

We’ve just helped Pipex Wireless – now called Freedom4 with the launch of their wireless internet connection product.

Using our CMS platform (PMS2) and a Mashup of Google Maps (which show coverage of trail areas) we were able to turn this around at top speed. The wireless trial has been running in Milton Keynes with Warwick Trial and Manchester Trial to be rolled out soon. So keep your eyes peeled! http://www.freedom4.com

Our lovely clients showed their thanks with a fantastic Fortnam and Mason hamper for us all to share - with our healthy appetite for all things fine, the hamper didn’t last long….

Flippin rubbish….

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

We’ve spoken a lot about viral marketing and co-authoring of brands. One new viral sensation you don’t want to be part of is ‘Flip’. It’s a simple concept; young girls film themselves ‘flipping’ brands into the dustbin because its advertising is offensive, insulting or just plain stupid.
