Google Audio Ads

Friday, December 21st, 2007

On a daily basis, radio and the Internet together reach about 83% of people between the ages of 18-54 — that’s nearly the same as television’s daily reach. In addition, more than 90% of the population listens to the radio, and 21% of people are listening while online. It’s no wonder then that Google have created Google Audio ads http://www.dmarc.net/ tapping into this rich medium.

Interruption Advertising Bites Back…

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

You can tell when someone’s desperate – they start getting reckless! We recorded the penultimate episode of Heroes from the Sci Fi channel (thanks Sky+!) so we could skip the ads and enjoy it at our leisure.

It looks like more and more people are doing the same, though, because they crowbarred a voice-over ad into the show! So instead of hearing a stirring speech from Nathan, all we could hear was an over-dubbed ad for mobile phone ringtones and downloads.

Which left us with two thoughts. First, it’s incredible to see how much the advertising landscape has changed over the last couple of years – all from the user taking control through digital technologies. Second, why would we ever want to watch the SciFi channel again if this sort of intrusive ad’s set to become the norm?

The future of design? Voters pick the next must-have on the net

This is something that really caught our eye this week…

If Kohei Nishiyama’s wishes are granted, he will be financially independent by the age of 40, living as an inventor and being woken each morning by his robot dog. But the 37-year-old Tokyo-based designer and founder of Elephant Design has a more ambitious dream, one he hopes will change the face of British shopping.
